Mighty Men, Warfare & Kingdom

1 Chron. 11:2 . . . even when Saul was king, you were the one who led . . .

Jesus is King even though He is not ruling over all yet. And even without filling an office (teacher, helper, etc), we function in our gifts.

I Chron 11:10 Mighty Men strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom – to make him king according to the word of the LORD.

We strengthen ourselves and join Him to bring in His Kingdom – the King of kings and LORD of lords.

Vs 14 They stationed themselves in the middle of that field, defended it, and killed the Philistines. So the LORD brought about a great victory.

We stand firm in the middle of the battle, defend our ground, defeat the enemy, and God brings victory.

Vs 19 . . . For at the risk of their lives they brought it.

We don’t consider our lives more precious than Him.

I Chron. 12:2 armed with bows, using both the right hand and the left.

We are effective in multiple directions and ways.

Vs 18 . . . We are yours, . . . We are on your side . . .                 We decide and declare our allegiance.

Vs 21 They helped David . . .  for they were all Mighty Men of valor . . .  Might required to bring in the Kingdom. Matt. 11:12

Vs 22 . . . they came . . . day by day to help him, until it was a great army, like the army of God

More and more come under His authority.

Mighty men come together to help and to be a great army.         Vs 25 fit for war

Vs 32 . . . had understanding of the times, to know what . . . to do

We have the Spirit of Wisdom and the mind of Christ.

Vs 33 . . . stouthearted men who could keep ranks.  We stay shoulder to shoulder in our group

Vs 35 . . . who could keep battle formation . . .

Our group stays in position with groups on both sides of us.

Vs 37 . . . armed for battle with every kind of weapon of war 2 Cor. 10:3-5

Vs 38 . . . with a loyal heart to make David king . . . of one mind

We are loyal to Him and to each other until He reigns                     I Cor. 15:24-28

Vs 39 . . . eating and drinking, for their brethren had prepared for them.

Receiving help from those also fighting the battle but with different roles.

Vs 40 . . . there was joy . . .

It is joyous to see the anointed king reigning. That was the goal of those Mighty Men! And it is our goal as Mighty Warriors.

I started looking at the Mighty Men to see what they did and how they did it. There’s a lot of helpful insight in their character and their actions. But, I came to see why they did it was the lesson I needed. I hate war, but we are in a war until He reigns over all.  War is hard. It’s long. And I tend to feel alone and that it’s too much for me. I definitely tend to get weary in well doing! But there’s insight from the Mighty Men about what it takes. If I’m in the war for me – for some benefit I want, even sanctification or future glory and rewards, I am prone to quit when it’s hard and long, when I don’t see the results I want. I’m prone to settle for less because it’s easier and more comfortable for me.  But when I see the goal is for the King to rule over His entire kingdom, then those same hard, painful things seem worthwhile. I don’t want to settle for anything less. And it isn’t just His future kingdom. Our prayers and obedience make a difference now in the current pain, heartbreak, and devastation. “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Matt. 6:10

Warriors see that the battle as necessary, beneficial, worthy of giving their lives for He is worthy. His reign is worth it all. May we help others to see the wonder and glory of Him and choose Him.

May the blessing of the Lord always rest upon you, in hope, joy, and victory.
