Eph. 2:7 That in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
This verse caught my attention a few months back, and I was once again staggered by the more than you could ask, think, or imagine goodness of God (Eph. 3:20). When we see His goodness, we are seeing His glory (Ex. 33:18-19). In eternity, He will be lavishing kindness on us!! For all of eternity. It will take that to show us the exceeding riches of His grace. We will be blessed and amazed by the full, infinite measure of all His goodness, kindness, love, grace, mercy – all of all He is.
Then I started seeing other things that enlarged my understanding of eternity with Him.
Mark 10:45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.
A king who serves!! The very reason so many didn’t recognize Him.
Luke 12:37 Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching. Assuredly, I say to you that he will gird himself and have them sit down to eat and will come and serve them.
The master is going to serve the servants!!
Rev. 7:17 for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
In the midst of the throne, He continues to shepherd, lead, and wipe away our tears. He never forgets our need. He always cares about our pain. He knows the journey is hard. His compassion always causes Him to act – to wipe away our tears.
I think we will be filled with wonder, awe, praise. We will worship, and praise. This doesn’t mean we are not servants. We will continue to serve, to have some “work” to do as we reign with Him. We will be like Him when we see Him as He is – a bride prepared for Him. (I John 3:2) Every wound will be healed, every idol will be released, every fear will vanish, every doubt will be defeated, every promise will be fulfilled. We will finally love Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. We will know more about how much we are loved and continue to know more and more. Our worship will always be fresh because we will always have fresh revelation of what He is like. We will never get to the end of our infinite God!!
Loved this from Tim Keller, Reason for God and in Go Forward in Love, April 29
“Love relationships need to be mutual, both making adjustments to the other . . . And this is true in our relationship with God. We don’t just adjust to Him, He adjusted to us in His incarnation and atonement. . . He submitted to our condition as sinners, and died in our place. He has said in the most profound way, I will adjust to you. I will change for you. I’ll serve you though it means sacrifice for me.”
Can you even imagine?!! A King who serves His servants. He will be lavishing loving-kindness on us forever!!
